Cats are a lot like people in their day to day: they eat, they sleep, they play, they age. But while humans typically have many years to live, the feline lifespan is significantly shorter. So when one surpasses the cat standard in terms of blowing out candles, they receive quite a bit of recognition. And at the moment, all eyes are on San Diego’s Tiffany Two, the 26-year-old (that’s 124 human years) black tortoiseshell who was just named ‘Oldest Living Cat’ by the “Guinness Book of World Records.”

Purchased in 1988 when she was just seven-weeks-old by Point Loma, CA resident, and retired lawyer, Sharron Voorhees, Tiffany Two was adopted spur of the moment while Voorhees was passing by a pet store near her home.

“There was a big sign that said ‘Going out of business at 5 o’clock’ — and there was Tiffany in a cage,” Voorhees told “The Dodo” [https://www.thedodo.com/oldest-cats-longevity-secret-976090814.html]. “I didn’t know what would happen to her at 5 o’clock, so as I drove home I just kept thinking about her. By the time I got to the house, I knew I had to go back.”

Ten dollars later, and Tiffany Two was tucked into Voorhees’ arms, off to share a lifetime together. Tiffany Two was named after Voorhees’ first cat, Tiffany One, who was the spitting image of today’s feline of the moment, but passed at the age of one from cancer.

“Sometimes I wonder if she’s Tiffany One come back to live a second life. Two lives in one,” she said Thursday while speaking to U-T San Diego.

Today, Voorhees is 73-years-old and gearing up to celebrate Tiffany Two’s 27th birthday this March – an occasion which may just warrant a chicken or turkey treat. Until then, the two are content basking in one another’s love: the very thing Voorhees attributes to Tiffany Two’s long life.

“I always say that she’s lived so long because she’s so completely devoted,” Voorhees told “The Dodo.” “I have the feeling that she just doesn’t want to leave me, and I think there’s some truth to that.”
